Our Activity


This programme was supported by MEMISA DGD, Belgium and facilitated by WBVHA, with the  aim  to foster the formation of  a functional and easily accessible local health care system  and establish a synergy between the local heath care service providers, Basic Health Care and Support Programme was initiated in Pathar Pratima Bock of 24 Parganas (S).

To improve the health care through development of a coherent, functional health care system in the Panchayats, block, district level.

• Strengthening of the health functionaries and service providers.
• Strengthening of the basic health care through outreach camps, mobile clinics.
• Improvement of gynecological services, child clinics services.
• Community monitoring through formation of Village Health Committee. 
• Capacity building of the basic health team and other village stakeholders.
• Awareness generation.
• Formation and maintenance of the village development fund.
• Prevention of malnutrition.
• Organizing special awareness camps on prevention of Reproductive Tract Infection, Sexual Tract Infection.
• Participation of adolescents in awareness generation on youth issues.
• Case building and advocacy.
• Disaster reduction plan.


In the year 2005, 20th May, Human Development Centre established a ‘Short stay Home ‘with the support of Centre of Social Welfare Board in Maynaguri block of Jalpaiguri district. Both Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar district was characterised by violence against women, especially early marriage, wife battering, trafficking, child before marriage, desertion from family, which in turn increased the suicidal rate in both the districts. ’Kanhikalaya’ provides respite to such women, empowers and supports them to get back to the mainstream society.
The objective of the home is to provide shelter to helpless, destitute women as well as ensure their safety, social rehabilitation and well- being.
Areas of Implementation
Darjeeling, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri District
• Enrolls and supports school going children with curriculum fees, and other miscellaneous expenditures.
• Rehabilitation through ongoing individual and family counselling process.
• Introducing the inmates to the various income generation activities like tailoring, kitchen garden, agarbati rolling, umbrella embroidery, envelope making.
• Follow up with every inmate after rehabilitation process has been completed.


In Public Private Partnership, with the support of Health and Family Welfare Department of Jalpaiguri District, Human Development Centre provides ambulance services in Maynaguri Block of Jalpaiguri District. This service is merged with the Primary Health Care Centre.The Ambulance is rendering its services from 2007 till today. This ambulance was donated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal. Today day and night ambulance service continues to render service.


The Ambulance transports the patients who met with accidents or emergency cases to the hospitals and nursing homes in Jalpaiguri (Maynaguri rural hospital, Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital, Touch nursing home, Edland nursing home, Merina nursing home) as well as in Siliguri (Siliguri medical college, Ananda lok nursing home, Mitra nursing home, North Bengal nursing home).


*   Transported around 2700 patients till date.

*   Services extended to various hospitals and nursing homes in Jalpaiguri and Siliguri.

*   Services have also been extended to Kolkata and to Patna.


Patharpratima Block covered with 12 Island where health facilities are not available properly due to remote area as a result the community people faced problems common diseases to critical ones.  On the basis of this situation Human Development Centre introduce a mobile boat clinic named JIBANTARI including the following support viz. mother and child health check up, dental care, eye care, Pathological test and others with the qualified doctors and staffs as per schedule.  This service gives a big sensation among the community people for the remote area where they are not able to avail these facilities before.  The local Govt. and Non-Govt. Stakeholder also health has helped to success this project.  West Bengal Voluntary Health Association, Rotary Club of Dum Dum help to run smooth the programme with their financial support.

WASH PROJECT, Supported by : GOAL India - Ireland

From 2010 the WASH Project, supported by GOAL India is running at Kolkata Municipal area, Howrah, Budge Budge and Maheshtala Municipal area.  The Object of this project at this moment is to promote health and hygiene within the school students through behaviour changes and practices specially on handwash personal hygiene use of toilets, use of safe drinking water and clear environment within the school which led to the community with the support of school and Government stakeholders, Managing Committee/HDC and mothers teachers association.  

Implementation Areas

The programme is being in Kolkata, Budge Budge, Howrah and Maheshtala municipality area of West Bengal. 

*   Selection of the school according to the pre decided criteria.
*   Celebration of Hand washing day.
*   School Led total sanitation discussion with children
*   Teachers orientation. 
*   Orientation of Mothers, Teachers Association. 
*   Prize distribution 
*   World Toilet day celebration.
·   13 schools in Kolkata Municipality, 2 schools in Budge Budge Municipality and 35 schools in Maheshtala Municipality where software activities introduce to avoid health hazard for the purpose of 100% attendance in school for better study and result and lesson learn regarding health management system. 
·   Total number of teacher’s trained- 653 (Male-247, Female-406).
·   Total number of students reached - 32465(Male-10356, Female-22109).
·   Total number of Persons with Disability students reached - 32.  
·   Total number Teachers Trained were 74
·   There has been a remarkable Behaviour change in the students and the teachers are relentlessly trying to raise funds, towards sustainability health system within the school.

SILAI SCHOOLS, Supported by : USHA International Ltd. - New Delhi.

The programme with support from USHA was been started in the very year to provide an opportunity for teaching girls and women with a capacity to teach at least 50 (fifty) in the village to sew.

The main objective of the school is that it is operated and maintained by a Woman Entrepreneur using an USHA sewing machine. "Woman Entrepreneur" is responsible for operation and maintenance of Usha Silai School and are willing to teach women to sew. This project desirous to reach out the remote villages, by promoting "USHA Silai Schools" with the aim of empowering the village level woman entrepreneur to teach sewing to village women within the community.

Human Development Centre acts as interface between Usha International Limited and the villages for the implementation of this project.
